与劳伦斯的众多作品一样,短篇小说《玫瑰园中的影子》体现了他对婚姻中两性关系的关注与探索。在劳伦斯看来,现代文明不仅使人性异化,而且也导致婚姻关系的失衡。本文运用原型批评理论与文本细读的方式,对小说中出现的“伊甸园”与“玫瑰”等原型进行分析,得出结论是,工业社会使人类失去了精神的伊甸园,心灵如浮萍般无所皈依,灵与肉处于分离状态,只有自然能给人些许的安慰。借此揭示作品象征性意象之下的深刻内涵。
Like many of Lawrence’s novels, the short story “Shadow in the Rose Garden” reflects his concern and exploration of the gender relations in marriage. In Lawrence’s view, modern civilization not only alienated human nature, but also led to the imbalance of marital relations. This essay analyzes the archetypes such as “Eden” and “Rose” appearing in the novels by using the theory of prototype criticism and the method of textual reading, concluding that the industrial society has lost the spirit of Eden, Duckweed like no conversion, spiritual and flesh in a state of separation, only nature can give some comfort.
