Biennale Biennale, in Italian, refers to a systematic exhibition that takes place every other year. However, not biennial exhibitions can be named after Biennale, as the current use of this category mainly refers to contemporary art exhibitions across national boundaries. Among the many international biennials, The Venice Biennale (founded in 1895) is the oldest and most internationally influential international biennial with the most international influence.
