全世界已报道的蓝藻有2000多种,我国已记载的约有800多种。蓝藻能否被滤食性鱼类利用,过去人们一直持否定态度。《中国淡水鱼类养殖学》将蓝藻列入不消化藻类。倪达书(1954)从白鲢肠内食物和粪便培养观察得出,白鲢不能消化利用蓝藻。一般认为:金藻、甲藻和部分黄藻之所以易被消化是由于这些藻类细胞不具细胞壁,或细胞壁上具鞭毛、孔沟等构造,使之能直接被消化液作用或使消化液能通过这些“突破口”进入藻体内。蓝藻细胞外被覆一层厚厚的纤维质细胞壁,许多种类细胞外还被覆一层果胶质的衣鞘,由于鲤科鱼类缺乏消化植物纤维、几丁质、果胶质及胶质的消化酶,使得大部分蓝藻不能被消化。
