Purpose Early studies found differences in heartbeat evoked potential (HEP) among people with different heartbeat perceptions. In this paper, we designed two experiments to compare specific differences in HEP among people with a high level of heartbeat awareness and a weak heartbeat rate at attention and at rest. Methods Twenty-two subjects received 30 channels of brain waves. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the method of mental tracking: high perceived heartbeat and weak cognitive ability. Principal component analysis was used to remove the artifacts in the HEP. Results (1) There was a difference in HEP between state of attention and resting state in subjects with strong heartbeat perception. The difference is mainly reflected in the C3 after R wave 250-450ms and C4 at R wave after 100- 300ms. (2) The HEP difference wave of the subjects who had a strong sense of perception and a weak sense of perception mainly reflected a positive wave of 220-340 ms after the R wave of ECG at FZ. This difference was more obvious under the state of interest. Conclusions The factors of concern may be more likely to affect subjects with strong heartbeat-sensing ability. In the state of attention, the effect of sensory ability on HEP is more obvious.
