China’s economic growth has slowed down, but will it fall into the “middle-income trap”, as Lou Jiwei, minister of finance, has? China’s per capita GDP now stands at 7,600 U.S. dollars and appears to be a middle-income country. However, the national average does not reflect the major differences between regions. Chinese leaders face tough choices: Should coastal areas be further developed - will this widen the gap between coasts and inland areas or improve the conditions in poor areas to make the coasts and inland areas more balanced? To become a developed country, China will have its driving force from Coastal major economic belt.
