西德铁路在欧洲是比较发达的。在面积与人口只略多于我国广东省的西德,竟有六万多公里铁路(包括几千公里私营铁路)。西德大部分铁路干线已实现电气化,通信信号及行车调度等部门都采用了电子计算机等先进技术,铁道线路的维修养护工作也大部分实现了机械化,因此线路质量很好,行车平稳,旅客列车时速可达200公里,个别试验段可达250公里。 West Germany Railway is more developed in Europe.
