Chemist James Tour’s lab team at Rice University, along with his colleagues at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Houston, has developed a durable solid state catalyst that is expected to replace expensive platinum for hydrogen production from electrolyzed water. This new electrolytic catalyst disperses a very small amount of cobalt as a single atom on the nitrogen-doped graphene (Co-NG), is very durable and highly active in aqueous media with very low overpotentials. The comparative test results show that this new material almost reaches the platinum efficiency and is able to start the reaction at a low initial operating voltage. The new catalyst mixed into a solution, you can concentrate
