In the continuous casting process, the columnar crystals and dendrites are formed in the continuous casting slab due to the supercooling and the composition is undercooling, and intergranular segregation is formed between these columnar crystals and dendrites. Taking a kind of high-carbon steel as an example, the effect of slab structure on the final product was studied. The results show that intergranular segregation can not be completely eliminated by heating and hot rolling processes, and the subsequent deep processing inherited into the final product adversely affected product performance. Picric acid corrosion can be used to visually display the dendrite morphology before and after hot rolling, and the dendritic morphology can be used to analyze the source of defects in the rolling process.
