During the course of building a coastal defense, the Qing government took many measures to give priority to the development of the Northern Coastal Defense and put more emphasis on strengthening coastal defense in the Northern Ocean. Northern coastal defense construction is the epitome of coastal defense construction in the late Qing Dynasty. To analyze the pros and cons of maritime defense in the Northern Ocean and summarize the experiences and lessons learned are a significant task in the study of the history of modern China’s military affairs.
