[译者前言]克林思·布鲁克斯(Cleanth Brooks,1906—1994)美国新批评派大家,曾与R.P.沃伦创办《南方评论》(Southern Review),其代表作有《精制的瓮——诗歌结构研究》、《现代诗与传统》、《隐匿的上帝》、《福克纳:约克纳帕塔法郡》及与沃伦合著的《理解诗歌》、《理解小说》等。《诗歌传达什么?》(What Does Poetry Communicate?)译自布鲁克斯的名著《精制的瓮——诗歌结构研究》(The Well Wrought Urn—Studies in the Structure of Poetry,A HARVEST BOOK,SAN DIEGO、NEW YORK、LONDON,1975)的第四章。译时略去了本章的附言部分。在这一章中,通过对17世纪英国诗人赫里克的《科琳娜赴五朔节庆典》的细读,布鲁克斯提出了一些精辟的论点,比如:“诗人是重造语言”;“诗言诗所言”等。
[Translator’s Preface] Cleanth Brooks (1906-1994) New Critics of the United States, who founded the Southern Review with RP Warren, represented “elaborate urn-poetic structures Research ”,“ Modern Poetry and Traditions, ”“ The Hidden God, ”“ Faulkner: Yorkshire Pa Fatage ”and“ Understanding Poetry ”and“ Understanding the Novel ”co-authored with Warren. What Does Poetry Communicate? Is translated from Brooks’s famous book The Well Wrought Urn-Studies in the Structure of Poetry, A HARVEST BOOK, SAN DIEGO, NEW YORK , LONDON, 1975) Chapter IV. The translation omitted the postscript part of this chapter. In this chapter, Brooks made some incisive arguments by reading “Corinna’s celebration of the May Fourth” in the 17th century English poet Herrick. For example: “The poet is recreating the language.” “Poetic poem said ” and so on.
