A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research shows that consumers may avoid restaurant foods labeled “low calorie” because they find the foods unsatisfactory. In an online trial, participants need to order a menu that is very similar to the menu of a popular restaurant chain. Some volunteers get the menu only labeled food classification without calories information, the other group to get the same menu, but each type of food are marked with calorie information, the third set of menus are marked with calorie information, and to “Low calorie” lists a list of low-calorie foods separately for the title.
