Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) is the core of many extracellular signal transduction pathways of cell proliferation. MAPK phosphorylation activates a variety of transcription factors that affect gene expression and regulate cell proliferation. Growth factors and some vasoactive peptides activate MAPK in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and promote the proliferation of VSMC, which is of great significance for the occurrence of atherosclerosis, hypertension and restenosis after coronary angioplasty
