Objective: To investigate the relationship between E- and P-selectin and cerebral infarction. Methods Serum levels of sE- and sP-selectin in 30 patients with cerebral infarction, 25 patients with cerebral hemorrhage and 28 healthy controls were measured by ELISA. Results Serum levels of sE- and sP-selectin in patients with cerebral hemorrhage were significantly higher than those in patients with cerebral hemorrhage and normal controls. The levels of sE- and sP-selectin in patients with acute cerebral infarction were positively correlated with the levels of WBC, N% and IL-6, respectively. The levels of sP-selectin and TNF were positively correlated. Conclusions Increased serum levels of sE- and sP-selectin reflect acute brain injury. E- and P-selectin may be involved in the process of cerebral infarction injury stimulated by TNF and IL-6.
