Soft burning has long been a priority in diesel engine development. In order to evaluate the percussive characteristics of diesel engines, it has been ascertained that the rate of pressure rise upon ignition can be used as a measurable parameter for it. The conclusions are: (1) (dP) / (dα), which is measured at atmospheric pressure / crank angle, produces torsional vibrations on the engine moving parts when viewed against the rotating system, which vibrations are transmitted to the driven machine. Or, (2) (dP) / (dt), measured at atmospheric pressure / millisecond, is induced into a rapid strain due to an internal collision of solids when assessing the sound conducted through the solid on the engine components.
