SAP uses Java at several different levels of desktops, servers, and the Internet to transform its R/3 commercial C/S application suite into more resilient software components. Although SAP officials began to reject Java outside the door, in the R/34.0 that was planned to be released at the end of 1997, this emerging programming language clearly played an important role. Panl Wahl, CEO of SAP USA, said: “There are many conceptual similarities between Java and ABAP4.” ABAP4 is a proprietary language written for R/3 applications SAP. Wahl said that Java and ABAP4 are very similar, such as the characteristics of the processor and operating system and the ability to compile data in real time. As a start, SAP is using Java to develop its first component entirely. It is a product distribution layout program that enables companies to access and establish contracts through corporate intranets or the Internet, view shipping dates, and inventory of another component. Released before the release of version 4.0. SAP, which has already created a user interface for R/3 in Java, will also enable the R/34.0 object store for all component-based storage Java applets. However, SAP’s developers will never bet all their bets on Java. SAP and Microsoft are investigating how Java and ActiveX fit into the R/3 environment. SAP is looking forward to integrating Java and ActiveX into its applications. Microsoft’s BackOffice server applications, including Exchange, are considered to be distributed to R. The /3 system plays a key role.
