Sediment samples from the Prydz Bay waters obtained from the 21st Antarctic Scientific Expedition of China were used to investigate the deposition rate and its influencing factors of the sediments in this area by using 210Pb dating technique. The results show that the sedimentation rate of Prydz Bay in South Pole ranges from 0.47 to 1.88 mm / a with an average of 1.06 mm / a, which is higher than that of the Antarctic and lower than Weddell Sea. Generally speaking, Sedimentation rates are comparable in the South and Arctic regions. Sedimentation rates are mainly influenced by the upper marine life in the bay and the fringe of ice shelves, while the sedimentation rate in the shallow beach area of Bayou is mainly affected by benthic organisms. In addition, the flow rate, the stability of the water body, the length of the ice seal and the conditions of the seafloor topography also have an impact on the sedimentation rate. The distribution of sedimentation rate is the result of a combination of factors. In the central area of Baywan, where the biomass is relatively high and the water conditions are stable, the sedimentation rate is high while the sedimentation rate in the fringe of ice shelves is relatively low.
