The visual culture of the United States has surpassed the appreciation of the country’s natural beauty and resources. Since the 1940s, some artists have started to express their concern that technological development is putting the natural environment in a dilemma. Their worries are complicated by aesthetics. Many contemporary artists are committed to environmental restoration projects and are trying to bring the already destroyed ecosystems back to a state of balance. Concerns about the destruction of the environment were first manifested as fears of the invention of atomic bombs. Since the 1940s, several artists began to create works around this danger.
