Temperature has a significant effect on the growth of potato sprouts. Headford (1962 and 1978) pointed out that there is a linear relationship between the total length of each tuber shoot in some species and the temperature experienced by the tubers from dormancy until seeding. O’Brieu and Allen (1978) and Wurr (1978) both found that the yield of both precocious and dominant species was related to the cumulative day of seed germination. This indicates that the determination of the accumulated temperature during storage can be used as an indicator of commercial potato production.
