July 6, 1982, Fujitsu Ltd. of Japan announced the successful development of the FACOM VP-100/200 supercomputer (supercomputer) and ordered in 3Q-4Q 1983. In the past, the area of supercomputers was essentially dominated by the U.S. computer manufacturers. Taking this opportunity for Fujitsu to enter the international market, the competition between Japanese and U.S. computer companies will see a new situation. FACOM VP’s high-end “VP-200” operation scales up to 500 million floating-point operations per second, leveraging the concept of resource duplication, including multiple banks and multiple operating components. In our opinion, the aircraft has played a role in the design of the CRAY-1 in the U.S. supercomputer and has strengthened some of its functions to the fullest extent as a vector processing feature. Former FACOM M-380 super-mainframe takes 1500 hours of complex computing, with FACOM VP-200 only 30 hours to be completed.
