食用菌生产是脱贫致富的短、平、快项目。几年来,在我市发展很快,增辟了群众经济来源,但也消耗了大量的森林资源,给水土保持带来了巨大威协。针对这种情况,莆田市水土保持办公室于1988年提出“以芒箕骨、麦秆、芦苇、木薯秆等为代用料栽培香菇”的试验方案,委托仙海县榜头镇离退休干部食用菌试验小组进行。次年,经过去粗取精,改进配方,并增设“采用栽培香菇、黑木耳等的废料及大翼豆秆栽培蘑菇”、“采用代用料栽培黑木耳”的试验。这些试验现都已取得初步成效:木薯秆、大翼豆、甘蔗渣等混合料栽培黑木
