Q: A turkey (火鸡) is running. What’s happening?Why does the turkey run away?

A: Because today is Thanksgiving Day. People eat roast (烤) turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
因为今天是感恩节,人们在感恩节时要吃烤火鸡。
Q: When did Thanksgiving Day start?感恩节开始于何时?
A: There is a story about it.
Some Pilgrims (清教徒) aboard the Mayflower arrived (到达) in America on December 11, 1620.
During the first winter, they didn’t have enough (足够的) food. They had lost 46 of the original (最初的) 102 who sailed (航海) on the Mayflower.
In the next spring, 91 Indians (印第安人) helped them with their planting (播种,耕). They had a good harvest (收获). They decided (决定) to celebrate (庆祝) with a feast —including (包括) those 91 Indians. This “thanksgiving” feast was not repeated the
following year. In 1863, President (总统) Lincoln proclaimed (宣布)
the last Thursday in November as a national (国家的) day of
Thanksgiving.
