Today, the dairy industry accounts for an increasing proportion in the food industry, and the international trade volume of dairy products is also increasing. In 1997, the world’s milk production was 470 million tons, of which the international market accounted for 37 million tons. The Australian industry plays a very important role in the international trade of dairy products. Although its milk production is relatively small (about 1,000 tons per year), international trade accounts for 12% of the world’s total. In order to enable our food industry counterparts to better understand Australia’s dairy industry, the reporter interviewed the Director of the Australian Dairy Bureau, Mr. Graham Donkin, and asked him to introduce the basic situation of the Australian dairy industry.
