世界众多的国家正大力培育“桉树速生能源林”,马达加斯加岛有135000公顷的桉树林(赤桉等)被用作薪炭林,阿根廷的密西昂斯栽培着很多赤桉,用以提供最好的燃料,干燥著名的“冬青茶(Year mate)”。赤桉(Eucalyptus camaldulenisiDehnhardt)别名小叶桉、雀斑桉,常绿大乔木,原产地澳大利亚,树高可达50m,胸径2～3m。在江西引种的134种桉树中,赤桉是其中生长最好的一种。
