Pear scab is one of the major pests in Asia. The disease is caused by the infection of Venturia nashicola. V. nashicola is mainly parasitic in the pectin layer of the cell wall of the Asian pear leaf epidermis. Infection with the bacteria may be mainly related to secretion of extracellular secretion substances, keratolytic enzymes, hydrogen peroxide and pectinolytic enzymes. The resistance of Asian pears to V. nashicola may be mainly related to polygalacturonase inhibitory protein, a variety of disease-related proteins, leucine-rich repetitive receptor protein kinase and so on. In addition, acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM), a systemic resistance-inducing agent without direct bactericidal activity, had better control effects on S.arvis in field trials. This is related to ASM-induced plant defense responses, including polygalacturonase inhibitory protein and chitinase.
