【Objective】 The objective of this study was to investigate the feeding preference of Reticulitermes chinensis and Coptotermes formosanus to several common timber species in Zhenjiang and analyze the influence of termite species and wood species on the preference and mortality of termites, With a view to provide the scientific basis for termite control and prevention in this area. 【Method】 The termites were fed on non-selective feeding test. The two termites were fed on Cinnamonum campora, Ginkgo biloba, Metasequoia glyptostrodoides, weeping willow Salix babylonica, Magnolia grandiflora, Eriobotrya japonica, Pinus massoniana The feeding preference and mortality of the 7 species of tree foodstuffs and the feeding preferences are based on the termites’ feeding rate, that is, the daily feeding amount (mg) per gram of termites. Test data using multiple factor analysis of variance. 【Result】 ANOVA results showed that termite species and different wood species had significant effects on the feeding rate and mortality of termites. Among the seven species of wood tested, the black-throated termites most preferred weeping willows and masson pine, with the feeding rates of 31.46 and 30.59 mg, respectively. The most preferred species of Taiwan termites were P. massoniana, Metasequoia glyptostroboides and Ginkgo biloba, respectively, 26.53, 21.82 and 21.81 mg. The two species of termites had significant differences in feeding rates among the three species of Ginkgo biloba, Weeping weeping willow and Magnolia grandiflora, while the other four species did not differ significantly in their feeding rates. 【Conclusion】 Termite feeding and mortality are significantly affected by termites and wood varieties. Of the seven species tested, both species showed obvious preference for Pinus massoniana with the lowest mortality.
