The petrochemical industry is an important energy and raw material industry in the national economy and has become one of the “pillar industries.” In the 47 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the development of the petrochemical industry in China has been rapid and it now has a fairly good foundation. The large varieties based on basic raw materials, basic organic raw materials and three major synthetic materials are relatively complete, and hundreds of sets of upstream and downstream devices have been introduced, with close to 10 billion U.S. dollars, and existing large C_2~= devices 30 to 45 Ten thousand t/a, medium-sized C_2~= devices are about 140,000 t/a. 19 large and medium-sized ethylene projects (1995) completed and under construction
