In order to study the type of respiratory reaction during acute hypoxia, 45 healthy male youths were enrolled in this study. 45 hypoxia exposure experiments were performed on the height of 3000-7000m in the low-pressure cabin. At altitude of 3000-5000m, the increase of pulmonary ventilation (V_E) mainly depends on the amount of tidal volume (V_T) and no significant change of respiratory rate (f). In 5000m, 4 patients showed periodic breathing and 1 patient developed ventilation inhibition reaction. At 7000m, there were three types of respiratory responses: (1) f increased continuously, and V_T decreased. All subjects had symptoms of brain dysfunction (n = 5), (2) increased V_T and f (n = 4) ; (8) V_T increases, f is relatively stable (2 cases), this type of hypoxia endurance is better.
