Studies on salt-infested soils show that the substitutional Na increases at the same time as the substitutional Ca decreases, causing an unbalanced ion that adversely affects plant growth. High external Na reduces the activity of ca ions in the root medium and reduces the amount of Ca ions that the plant can absorb. When the outside Na / Ca is relatively high, the suitable Ca concentration under non-salt conditions may turn into inappropriate nutrition.
