From 1964 to 1973, South Korea dispatched troops to Vietnam to help the U.S. military to fight. Including the overseas service allowance of the dispatched troops, South Korea dispatched troops to Vietnam and obtained a great deal of assistance from the United States. To a great extent, South Korea solved the much-needed foreign exchange issue at that time. This foreign exchange, together with the so-called “special demand for the war on Vietnam,” brought by the troop procurement and field logistics contracting brought by the dispatch of troops, has directly and indirectly boosted the development of the Korean economy and has become a powerful boost to boosting the country’s economic growth.
