Jolene Hansen (right) has been treated with a variety of acute lymphoblastic leukemias in childhood. ● Pediatric leukemia is curable to a high degree, but many survivors suffer from long-term, even life-threatening, Drug side effects. Scientists are looking for a safer approach to treatment. One of the earliest memories of Jolene Hanson was sitting on a wheelchair at the University of Minnesota Medical Center for a birthday cake on March 4, 1976, her 4th birthday. Only 16 days later, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). At that time, acute lymphoblastic leukemia took away 2/3 of the sick children’s lives.
