The optical output characteristics of a microcavity laser with a wavelength of at least one dimension are deduced. For the first time, an analytic solution to the rate equation is obtained when the non-radiative decay rate is not equal to zero. The results show that the higher coupling efficiency of the microcavity laser emitting spontaneously into the cavity mode. The rate of excitation characteristics and the traditional laser are very different. In an enclosed cavity, the optical output characteristics of a microcavity laser are linear for an ideal four-level laser system with zero radiation decay rate of zero. When the rate of non-radiative decay is non-zero (as is often the case), its light output characteristics are no longer linear even for the closed cavity of an ideal four-level laser system.
