1999年10月1日上午。首都北京天安门广场,彩旗在金风中招展,无数张喜悦的笑脸与似锦的花团相映。中华人民共和国50华诞的庆典正在隆重举行。金水桥东侧的1号观礼台上,有位身穿鲜红色上衣的女士,望着步履整齐的陆海空军方队和高科技装备的战车及装载导弹的车辆,她挺起了腰杆;当群众欢腾的游行队伍经过时,她激动地摘下眼镜,拭去镜片上的热泪。这位女士就是国务院邀请的美国华侨观礼代表杨八林。
October 1, 1999 morning. Tiananmen Square, the capital of Beijing, bunting fluttering in the golden wind, countless happy face smile and flowers matched. The 50th Birthday Celebration of the People’s Republic of China is being held ceremoniously. On the 1st ceremony stand on the east side of Jinshuiqiao, there was a lady in a bright red jacket looking up at the well-knuckled army, navy and air force corps and high-tech chariot and missile-loaded vehicles. When the crowd jumped through the parade, she exclaimed off the glasses and wiped away the tears on the lenses. This lady is the representative of the American overseas Chinese who was invited by the State Council to observe Yang Baling.
