Carson McCullers’ s handwriting, Sad Songs of Cafe, expresses a lonely theme that is, to a large extent, modernist. This theme is deeply reflected by the way of love between characters, the pursuit of love by characters, and the failure process. Modern love has a unilateral, non-permanent and paradoxical form. It is entirely an egocentric emotional experience, motivated solely by the maintenance of personal fragmented beliefs. The role of a person as a lover and a loved one can not coincide, and the division of the two ultimately fails any attempt to save loneliness through love and deepens the original loneliness. This article makes a further understanding of the theme of the novel by analyzing the love of variation among the lonely characters in the work and the relationship between love and the loneliness of modernism.
