丰卦的主题是讲明德之丰,其卦辞则讲王者的丰大明德,各爻爻辞则围绕明德之丰讲三个问题:第一,臣子要择明德之主而事;第二,君主的明德亦有被遮蔽的时候,君主的明德被遮蔽后,其丰大之明德有一个从被遮蔽到重新复显的过程;第三,古人倡导的是明德之丰大,如果过分贪图物质享受,过分追求物质享受的奢侈或丰大,则其凶必至。《周易》古经很可能是中国思想史上第一部明确谈到去蔽的著作,荀子的去蔽思想无疑是对《周易》古经去蔽思想的深化与发展。而本卦只是讲明德被遮蔽而不是完全消失,此一理路似为《中庸》等所继承并发扬光大,而开显出中国哲学人性论的已发和未发、已显和未显的重要和基本理论。
