Originated in the United States in the modern sense of the mother’s day, by Ana Jarvis (1864-1948), she lives unmarried, always accompanied by her mother. In 1905, Anna Jarvis was distraught when her mother died. Two years later, Anna Jarvis and her friends began writing letters to influential ministers, businessmen, and parliamentarians for support in order to make Mother’s Day a statutory holiday. Anna Jarvis thinks children often ignore feelings about their mothers and she hopes Mother’s Day will remind people of what Mother has to offer her family.
