徐菊庵(1890-1964),原姓仲,后以嗣继外家,遂改姓徐,名容,号菊庵,别号淡香庐主、九百品斋主,晚号朽翁,浙江桐乡人。曾为上海市文史馆馆员、浙江省文史研究馆馆员。著有《淡香庐诗草》、《淡香庐日记》。善画人物仕女,初学改琦,后师费丹旭,用笔挺秀,设色典丽,20世纪20至50年代,作品散见于沪上报刊。这幅画充分展示了徐菊庵人物画水准。嫦娥自然是画面焦点,画家在这里不吝笔墨,作了极为精到的刻画,眉目清秀、神态端庄自不待言,发髻、饰物、裙裾也煞费苦心,可谓穷形尽态、妙得形神。衣纹、飘带以流畅绵韧的长线出之,既饶动势,又富质感,可以看出画家用笔的精妙技艺与深湛功力。细节如服饰上的图案、头饰和怀中的玉免画家
