The rapid growth of economic potential and the achievements made in laying the foundations of industrialization have made ASEAN countries equal partners in industrialized capitalist countries. ASEAN countries have huge reserves of mineral raw materials (third in the world after the Soviet Union and the United States), and the reserves of non-ferrous metals, fuels and agricultural resources are particularly abundant (many strategic raw materials have long-term needs in Japan and the United States).
