The completed set of tests clearly demonstrated that drilling muds can cause severe irreversible damage to the fractures and greatly reduce oil production in those producing wells that produce oil from natural fracture networks. Using the sifted fiber as an additive to drilling mud can significantly reduce the depth and extent of formation damage. Granular additives (such as CaCO3) are much less effective. Therefore, it is advisable to use acid-soluble fibers to reduce formation damage in fractured reservoirs.
