A new study shows that experiencing family problems in childhood and early adolescence can affect brain development and may lead to mental health problems in later life. Researchers at the University of East Anglia in developmental psychology brain scans of adolescents aged 17 to 19 using brain imaging and found that subjects who experienced mild to moderate family setbacks between birth and age 11 Cerebellum will develop relatively small. The cerebellum is responsible for skills learning, tension adjustment and sensory motor control of the brain. Researchers suggest that smaller cerebrum development as a risk factor for mental illness thereafter, in fact, all patients with mental disorders are relatively small cerebrum development.
