魏源把人才视为关乎国家兴衰成败的关键问题。在对人才本身的要求上,提出人才应有实用建实功,具有民胞物与之情怀等优秀品质。关于人才的考察,提出要辨别真才与伪才。认为获得人才,有造士与求贤两种方式,而求取人才宜于城邑。在人才的使用上,提出所用必所养,区分才臣与能臣,致一用两,善用小人等思想。魏源的人才思想是和解决现实困境的需要相联系的,充满对现实的批判,极具进步意义。
