主干建设一直是校园网或企业网建设的重点．本文介绍并评述了以往各种网络主干技术的优缺点，着重讨论了交换式以太网的特点及其发展过程，尤其近两年的飞跃发展；介绍了交换式以太网发展过程中的三种模型———标准交换式以太网、改进的交换式以太网和基于三层交换的交换网以及各自的应用前景，指出基于三层交换的交换网将是今后交换式以太网的发展方向．
Backbone construction has always been the focus of campus network or enterprise network construction. This article introduced and commented on the advantages and disadvantages of all kinds of network backbone technologies in the past, and focused on the characteristics and development process of switched Ethernet, especially the leap development in recent two years; introduced the three models in the development of switched Ethernet --- standard switched Ethernet, improved switched Ethernet and switched network based on the three-tier exchange and their respective applications, pointed out that the exchange based on the three-tier exchange network will be the future development of switched Ethernet.
