For decades, the demand for fresh water in the National Capital Territory of Delhi has been growing rapidly. Delhi is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with a population of about 15 million. In response to increasing demand for water, the government has focused on water management and engineering measures, for which it has invested hundreds of millions of rupees. The current lack of and imperfect environmental, economic and social policies related to water resources management in the city led to a worsening of the environmental, health and socio-economic conditions in a densely populated area of Delhi. Lack of national water demand management, wastewater recycling, water resources protection and other aspects of long-term planning. An overview of the water supply in Delhi is presented to help understand the impact of water use in densely populated urban areas, commercial and industrial sectors. The analysis shows that it is imminent to improve the current water and wastewater management practices in Delhi.
