Nearly four or five years ago, many mutant varieties of corn endosperm have been found, some of which have been put into commercial production, while others are also likely to be put into production. This paper presents an overview of the mutants of corn endosperm, their current value, and the long-term implications. The second article, to be published next month, will examine two particularly valuable endosperm mutations in pigs and cattle: waxy (Waxy) corn, and Opaque-2.
