Kuei River is polluted by receiving urban industrial wastewater and domestic sewage. To understand the influence of pollution on the health and hemoglobin of children and adolescents in coastal areas, 992 students (492 in the observation group and 500 in the control group) were enrolled in the study. The Hb value was determined by cyanmethemoglobin method. The mean Hb in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group (122.88 ± 10.84g / L, 127.96 ± 8.40g / L, t = 8.26, P <0.01) The prevalence of anemia was significantly higher than that of the control group (44.11% in the observation group and 29.0% in the control group) (u = 4.94, P <0.01). It is suggested that the polluted water source of Kui River has formed a wide range of pollution to the residents’ drinking water and living environment and has endangered the health and hemoglobin content of children and adolescents along the coast.
