The main reason for the failure of breast cancer treatment is distant metastasis. A total of 696 cases of postoperative radiotherapy for women undergoing unilateral breast cancer have been treated in our department from 1976 to 1985. All of them were confirmed by postoperative pathology and followed up for 1 to 12 years. A total of 153 cases of distant metastases occurred, including 94 cases of lung metastases, followed by bone, brain, and liver metastases. Distant metastases occur in breast cancer, accounting for two-thirds of the cases of treatment failure. From this group of patients, we can see that the international staging of breast cancer, the age of patients, the size of the tumor, and the presence or absence of metastases and the number of metastases in the routine pathological examination of axillary lymph nodes have a great influence on the prognosis.
