A simple method of generating dual-wavelength ultra-narrow pulses using Fabry-Perot semiconductor lasers with extra-cavity injection-mode modulation gain is described. The extra-corporeal injection function consists of a dc-operated Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser, a 3dB optocoupler and two Bragg-type fiber gratings. Dual wavelength selection and spacing is achieved by adjusting the grating. The system described in this article achieves the desired result of a side-mold compression ratio of better than 17 dB over a 10 nm adjustment range. The whole system is simple and low cost.
