Objective To explore the degree of self-acceptance of AIDS patients in rural areas and its influencing factors. Methods A total of 117 HIV / AIDS patients in countryside of northern Anhui were investigated by using self-acceptance questionnaire (SAQ) and family and community care questionnaire. Results The total score of SAQ in rural AIDS patients in northern Anhui was (39.76 ± 6.93) points, the score of self-evaluation factor was (19.78 ± 4.27) and the score of self-acceptance factor was (19.98 ± 4.93) points. SAQ scores and self-acceptance factors of female AIDS patients were lower than those of men (all P <0.05). The SAQ score, self-evaluation and self-acceptance factor scores of peasant patients were lower than those of other occupational patients (all P <0.01). The SAQ score and self-evaluation factor score of AIDS patients were positively correlated with the annual per capita income (all P <0.05). The SAQ score and self-acceptance factor scores of AIDS patients were positively correlated with family and community care scores (all P <0.01). Multivariate linear stepwise regression analysis showed that family and community care, gender, annual per capita income, and whether or not they lived with their parents were the influencing factors of self-acceptance of AIDS patients. Family and community care scores were high, men and women were men and their annual per capita income was high. Living with parents is a protective factor in the degree of self-acceptance. Conclusion The HIV / AIDS patients in rural areas of northern Anhui have a low degree of self-acceptance, family and community care, sex, annual income per capita, living with their parents and other possible influencing factors.
