核工业部西北地勘局219大队5分队于1984年夏季普查找矿中,在甘肃省武山县发现人类化石(以下简称武山人)及石器时代文化遗物。后由陕西省考古研究所、西北大学专家、教授进行了初步鉴定,认为该化石为一个18岁左右的晚期智人(新人)化石。并按国家文物法规定于1984年12月中旬向甘肃省人民政府及有关文保部门写信报告。尔后,于1985年3月底将几十件文物全部移交给甘肃省博物馆长谢骏义等,供考古专业人员进行详细研究。

And in accordance with the provisions of the State Cultural Relic Law in mid-December 1984 to the People’s Government of Gansu Province and the relevant departments of social security write letters. Later, at the end of March 1985, all the dozens of cultural relics were handed over to Xie Junyi, a museum curator in Gansu Province, for archaeological professionals to conduct a detailed study.
