索洛古勃是俄罗斯白银时代最为著名的代表性作家之一,在五四后的中国亦较有影响。鲁迅早在日本留学时期即与其有过接触,他与周作人合译的《域外小说集》收有索洛古勃的作品。以后鲁迅仍对索洛古勃多有关注和评论,直至其生命的晚年。鲁迅揭示了索洛古勃作品艺术特质及其与社会生活的关系,认为他是“死的赞美者”;表现“无可挽救的哀惨”是索洛古勃作品的主要内容之一;对索洛古勃的寓言也给予高度评价。鲁迅不时运用索洛古勃作品中的思想内容或艺术描写参与现实生活,或规劝青年,或批判社会,从中亦显现出鲁迅对索洛古勃的某些方面的评判,鲁迅在对索洛古勃某些作品的评论中表明他不赞成个人主义的无政府主义,还指出了索洛古勃与苏联新政权的格格不入,创造力迅速衰退。所有这些均昭示出鲁迅深刻的社会的历史的和艺术的洞察力。
