In recent years Endo has used the term “Paramodern” to describe his own ideas. Instead of criticizing and abandoning modernism, he reveals the diversity of modernism and embodies the important and gradual position adopted by modern successors. The Tsukushi-no-oka public crematorium won the Young Architect’s Award 2003 by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, which confirms the above assertion.
